Are portion sizes something you struggle with at meal times? If you answered yes, then I have just the tool for you!

The 3D dinner divider is a portion controlled serving mould based on the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. It helps you to prepare and visualise a balanced meal in just 3 easy steps.

1. Place the divider on your plate.
2. Fill the divider based on your own healthy eating plan.
3. Remove divider off plate. Enjoy your meal!

A typical Western diet consists of large intakes of protein and highly processed foods, consequently leading to an inadequate intake of vegetables. Recent stats show only 8.3% of Australians are meeting the recommended 5 serves a day according to the 2011-12 survey. Even if you are making an effort to eat more healthily, portion sizes are increasing and this can lead to gradual weight gain over a period of time without even noticing. The 3D dinner divider can help you keep your portion sizes under control while also helping you to meet your recommended vegetable intake.

Other benefits of the 3D Dinner Divider include:
• Fits most dinner plates,
• Helps to control portion size and energy intake,
• Compatible with most portion control diets,
• Easy to use,
• More effective than portion control plates as the Dinner Divider shows volumetric portion sizes rather than just lines on a plate,
• Dishwasher safe, and
• as it is placed on top of the plate it can be shared by the whole family.

It is divided into 3 portions consisting of:

Protein (1serve) which should equal the size of a deck of cards and there is an indent included to help you visually measure this out. Try and choose lean cuts of meat to reduce saturated fat intake. Protein is an important source of iron, zinc, vitamins B6 and B12.

Grains– you are given the option of having one or two serves depending on your nutrition requirements. Remember to choose low GI and wholegrain varieties as these are important sources of energy for the body and fibre for digestive health.

Vegetables – the portion is big enough to fit three serves of vegetables but don’t be scared to overfill this portion of the divider. If you’re feeling extra hungry you can have as many low starch vegetables as you like. It is recommended that you choose an assortment of colours and have a variety to consume a broad range of vitamins and minerals. Vegetables are important for maintaining a healthy weight and reducing cancer risk.

The 3D Dinner Divider is a great tool for weight management whether you want to lose weight or maintain your weight. If you’re someone who struggles with portion size or fitting in those extra veg then the 3D dinner divider can also be of benefit.
